Sprung fully formed from the head of a large mime, the Mime Hunters have brought together improvisational artists from varied walks of life and Baltimore neighborhoods. The troupe began in 2006 with performances at venues that include the Walters Art Museum, Artscape, The Chicago Improv Festival, the Baltimore Improv Festival and the Washington Improv Theatre's Fighting Improvisation Smackdown Tournament.
Weaving short form games into long form plots, the Mime Hunters have distinguished themselves with their unique adaptations of classic improv themes.
Sofia Balderson had always wondered what a real estate novelist was. So, one day, she decided to make herself some business cards with that job title. She figured that she'd eventually sort out what it meant later on. This is how she began her first forays into improv, and things have only gotter odder from there.
One Wednesday in February, on a road trip down from the Northern Parts, Ryan O'Grady stopped in Baltimore for a bag of pizza flavored Combos (yes, the tasty pretzel snack) and was promptly kidnapped. Ever since the Mime Hunters paid his ransom, he can be seen wandering the city's streets aimlessly muttering something about the "spider monkeys always stealing [his] socks." Ryan is the Mime Hunter's first and only resident hobo improv artist.
"Am I in coach?" asks Scott Goodhue. Residing on an alternate plane of existence, Scott is perpetually seeking an elusive first class upgrade. He thinks he's found one in the Mime Hunters and enjoys the turbulence.
With a successful history of organizing happy hours, one can never predict what will arise from Mitch Rothenberg's enormous {insert suggestive noun here}. Always able to mount an agenda or find the cleavage point in any argument, Mitch's favorite color is blue, just like his eyes.
When not plotting the overthrow of the free world from his Ellicott City subterranean volcanic lair, whilst clad in a smoking jacket and turtleneck dickie, Sean Stokes runs amok with the Mime Hunters. Like most males, Sean is an expert in things that he knows nothing about - a skill that serves him well in improv.
As a native Baltimoron, Stasia Thomas has a natural tendency to relate to people who grew up in or around her hometown. She also tends to yawn when she is tired and laugh when something is funny. Before the Mime Hunters, Stasia followed the troupe as a devoted fan. Just as Katie Holmes' dreams came true when her lifelong crush, Tom Cruise, popped the question, Stasia's world found meaning when the Mime Hunters brought her on board.
Josh Watters was an aspiring actor until an impatient director told him, "If you want to do things your way, go into improv." After self-imposed exile, residing in a van in New Zealand, Josh returned to Baltimore to join the Mime Hunters.
